OVERBALANCED, DIAPHRAGM-CONTROLLED FIRST STAGE
The heart of the regulator is the first stage. Most Apeks first stages operate with an overbalanced, diaphragm-controlled mechanism. In an overbalanced first stage, as the diver's depth increases, the average pressure increases faster than in a conventional, balanced first stage. The increased average pressure compensates for the increasing density of breathing gas, allowing more breathing gas to flow through the system when needed (i.e. during inhalation). The result is above-average breathing performance, regardless of depth.
DRY CHAMBER PROTECTED BY A DIAPHRAGM.
This regulator serves several functions, including protecting against icing of the mainspring, which can occur during dives in very cold waters. The membrane also protects the first stage dry chamber from the ingress of debris. This eliminates the need for oily silicone oils or filling the automaton with grease.
The Apeks DS 4 first stage has 4 medium pressure outlets (3/8") and 1 high pressure outlet (7/16"). Therefore, this stage has an extremely compact design and can be optimally used in many applications whether it is a single cylinder, twinset or stage cylinder.
The DIN connector is suitable for cylinders of 200 bar and 300 bar.
This first stage is of course suitable for cold water (below 10 C / 50 F).
The DS4 is especially popular for technical diving and as a second first stage!
Compatible with EAN40 out of the box.
DS4 first stage:
- DS4 first stage - no rotating turret.
- Unique over-balanced diaphragm design - when the diver descends, the over-balance function allows the average gas pressure in the hose to increase at a rate faster than ambient pressure. This results in excellent performance at depth.
- Dry chamber system keeps water away from the main spring chamber, preventing ice buildup and keeping silt and debris out.
